Born from a Passion for Helping Players to Succeed
Box Soccer was developed by Ian Cathro in the late 2000s while a Youth Team coach at Dundee Utd.
Ian’s objective was clear; to create game relevant training environments that insinctively builds intelligence and skills in every player. His solution was Box Soccer; a development philosophy and program that simulates soccer’s common and critical scenarios.
Ian has since gone on to work with the first teams of Valencia and Newcastle United, with duties at Heart of Midlothian and Rio Ave along the way. Ian is now 1st team coach at English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The company is now headed up by former International Footballer and Football Agency Owner John Colquhoun.
Owner, Box Soccer Training
John is a former Heart of Midlothian, Celtic and Scotland attacker who played 531 professional games spanning his career. Since retiring from profesionnal football, John has taken roles as Rector of Edinburgh University and also with Sport Scotland.
Under John’s leadership Box Soccer has gone on to lead professional academy programs and spread our methods internationally. Currently there are over 100 sessions on a weekly basis taking place across Scotland, England and the United States.
Never Accepting Second Best
Box Soccer Training uses a unique methodology to deliver progressive training sessions that require no moving of equipment. We deliver a demanding, thought-provoking programme that encourages our players to make their own decisions.
The programme is suitable for all levels of the game from grassroots players right up to the leading professional academies. Each player is likely to get approximately 1000 touches per hour session. This ensures players transfer what they learn at Box Soccer into a match situation.
If your child attended piano lessons every week but never improved enough to play a tune, you would not be happy. Too often, where football is concerned, we are happy to settle for second best.
Here at Box Soccer, we don’t!
